Human Rights Day

In honor of Human Rights Day (December 10th), we have curated a shortlist of books that promote discussions about what Human Rights are and why it's important to ensure that all living beings have access to these inalienable rights.

It's never too early to talk to our children about what it means to have human rights and the injustices that we see regarding these inherent rights and freedoms.

These picture books promote discourse around proper access to education, working conditions, treatment of immigrants and refugees, access to essential services like food and water, freedom of expression, and all treating humanity with dignity and respect.

Book Titles include:

  • Dreams of Freedom, Amnesty International

  • Brave Girl, Clara and the Shirtwaist Makers' Strike of 1909 by Michelle Markel

  • Joelito's Big Decision/La Gran Decisión de Joelito by Anne Berlak

  • Mama's Nightingale by Edwidge Danticat

  • Whoever You Are by Mem Fox

  • Chachaji's Cup by Uma Chrishnaswami

  • This Day In June by Gayle E Pitman

  • Four Feet, Two Sandals by Karen Lynn Williams and Khadra Mohammed
